John LathamJohn is Vice-Chancellor and CEO of the Coventry University Group and Extraordinary Professor of Stellenbosch University.

John has a 30+ year career focused on digital technologies, innovation, knowledge transfer/exploitation and supporting SME’s.  As Vice-Chancellor and CEO of the Coventry University Group, John is responsible for the overall academic leadership of the operations of the University and it’s related group of Subsidiaries. He also holds an academic appointment as Extraordinary Professor of Stellenbosch University in the field of innovation and enterprise development.

John is a Member for the HEFCE Research and Knowledge Exchange Committee and also of the Universities UK Innovation and Growth Policy Network, which have national roles related to UK Universities in economic developments related to Research, Innovation and Growth. John is also a Design Council Advisory Board Member and an Advisory Network Member for the Connected Digital Economy Catapult (CDEC). Additionally since 2010 John has been a Non-Executive Board Member of the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) Ltd, chairing the European Structural Funds Committee.

Previously John has held a number Non-Executive positions in the private sector including a number of universitiy Spin-outs both in the UK and overseas. As Evaluator and Programme Advisor to the European Commission John was directly involved in the formulation and launch of the new Horizon 2020 programme.  In addition, a previous UK Ministerial appointment was as a Member of the UK Government National Measurement Board (2007-2014) which gave strategic oversight of the UK National Measurement System.
