Head of Community Relations, Jaguar Land Rover

Les RatcliffeLes Ratcliffe joined Jaguar in 1973 after completing 5 years’ service with the Regular Army. He worked in production before moving to assembly development and onto a number of training appointments.

He was appointed Manager Open Learning in 1985 introducing a distance-learning scheme into the Company supported by the then Manpower Services Commission.  In 1990 he was appointed Manager, Management & Professional Training where a key aspect of his work was the introduction of a business leadership initiative

In 1998 he was appointed to a new position within the Company as Manager Community Relations within the Communications and Public Affairs function and was responsible for the introduction of a Community Relations Strategy into Jaguar, later to become Head of Community Relations Jaguar Land Rover.

Working closely across the West Midlands, Coventry, Warwickshire and the North West with organisations like Business in the Community, Arts & Business, Strategic Partnerships and local communities, Jaguar Land Rover now have a Community programme that contributes over £1.4 million per year to the community made up of employee and corporate time, facilities, contributions and sponsorship.

A key element of Les’s role is delivering a Community Relations Strategy that supports investment into charitable giving, Education development, Volunteering and Community Cohesion.

In April 2007 Les was elected to Chair of the Coventry Partnership a Local Strategic Partnership representing the private sector group.

In 2008 Les was selected as the ‘The Prince of Wales Ambassador’ Business in the Community for the West Midlands.

In 2010 Les steered Jaguar Land Rover to achieving the Business in the Community Community Mark that publicly recognises excellence in Community Investment in conjunction with Platinum Status for Corporate Responsibility, the first automotive Company to achieve this in the UK.

In 2011 Les was awarded ‘The Coventry Award of Merit’ for outstanding personal contribution to Jaguar Land Rover whilst promoting community relations for the City.

In February 2012 Les was elected as Chair of the Coventry and Warwickshire ‘Place Board’ and Champions.

In December 2012 Les was recognised as a Business in the Community ‘Game Changer’ a one off award to recognise the inspirational individuals working behind the scenes to advance the responsible business movement. In July 2013 Les was part of the team that lead Jaguar Land Rover to be awarded Responsible Business of the Year 2013 and the national award ‘Big Tick’ for JLRs Education programme. Les is married has two children and enjoys most sports, walking, the arts and a drink down the local.
