Prof Matt Qvortrup
Matt Qvortrup is Academic Director of RISING and Professor of Applied Political Science and International Relations at Coventry University.
An expert on democracy, constitutions and European Politics, Professor Qvortrup earned his doctorate at Oxford and has published extensively on democracy and peace, including his book Referendums and Ethnic Conflict (University of Pennsylvania Press 2014). His most recent book Angela Merkel: Europe’s Most Influential Leader was published by Duckworth in 2016.
Awarded the PSA Prize in 2013 for his research on ‘Terrorism and Political Science’, he served as a specialist advisor to the House of Commons Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee (2015) and as a member of President Obama’s special envoy team in Africa (2009-2010).
A frequent commentator for the BBC, Professor Qvortrup writes regularly for Bloomberg and Newsweek.
